RADARSEMARANG.ID, Semarang – In just four days, as many as 25 participants produced 90 creative water hyacinth products at the Central Java Training and Cooperative Center (Balatkop), Thursday (11/8).

This training on the Internal Control System and Water Hyacinth was deliberately held to overcome the problems of these weeds which are scattered in many swamp areas. Then as a form of support for environmentally friendly products.

“Craft entrepreneurs in areas that have problems with water hyacinth we train to be intensive participants here,” explained Bengok Craft Founder Firman Setya Aji to Jawa Pos Radar Semarang.

Among the participants, five of them have the basics of processing water hyacinth. Aji also divided the participants into five teams. Then give the assignment to make 3-5 products for each participant in each team. With teamwork, participants are more enthusiastic about completing the mission.

Even though they just held water hyacinths, the participants were skilled and showed many new creations since they have a background in arts and crafts. Even for those who used a sewing machine for the first time, the participants immediately adapted.

“They were craftsmen before they learned to make water hyacinth, so there are many product combinations here with other crafts, such as leather, knitting, etc.,” added the young instructor.

This newspaper meets Ricky Budianto, who has been in the leather craft industry for four years. The participant from Semarang made a combination of leather sandals with water hyacinth. He also produces company hats, match covers, sling bags, pillows, books, and masks.

“This leather product is common, I need a unique value to differentiate and I can find it here with water hyacinth,” said the purple-haired man.

Aji assessed that each participant had their own unique work. Meanwhile, among ladies, it is seen that they tend to highlight the details of accuracy and neatness in each product. The three disabled participants who were also creative were able to make skullcaps, fruit baskets, and tablecloths.

He is proud to share with fellow craftsmen, his products are increasingly varied. He hopes that the knowledge possessed can encourage the potential of local creative products to develop in each region.

The intensive training event was concluded with the Berdikari Fashion Week exhibition. A total of five groups took turns showing their products at the zebra cross beside the building.

Balatkop UKM Central Java tried to display 90 participants’ products with creative and attractive packaging. Therefore, it could promote the work as well as reach wider internet users. (taff/ida)
