Special Olympics is an international organization that oversees children and adults with special needs in competitions in the field of sports. One of the biggest events is through the National Special Olympics Week (PESONAS) 2022. This event is held regularly in different countries in turn. Indonesia, this time is the host of PESONAS 2022, which will be held in Semarang from 3-8 July 2022.
The participants were athletes from various regencies and cities in Central Java Province, such as Boyolali, Wonogiri, Wonosobo, Sragen, Surakarta, and Semarang. Twelve sports compete in this event: Bocce, handball, swimming, basketball, futsal, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, athletics, and dance sports. This event is located at Gradhika Bhakti Praja Hall.
Prior to participating in PESONAS 2022, athlete participants first took part in the Event Test, which was the initial screening for participants before participating in this competitive event. PESONAS 2022 this time, not only presents a sports competition but also showcases MSMEs assisted by the Industry and Trade Office of Central Java Province. Various selected MSMEs from the food and beverage, handicraft, and fashion clusters are ready to attract visitors’ attention in the courtyard of the governor’s office in Central Java Province. After watching the match, visitors can visit the UMKM booth to buy gifts and souvenirs for friends, family, and relatives.
One of the MSMEs that has the opportunity to enliven PESONAS 2022 is Bengok Craft. This UMKM from Semarang Regency has transformed water hyacinth weeds into various craft creations with good values. Its creations are available at PESONAS 2022 including home-decor products, accessories, to fashion. The characteristic natural colour of dried water hyacinth gives an ethnic and rustic impression.
Meeting him on Sunday (07/3), Firman Setyaji, the owner of Bengok Craft, revealed that he is grateful to be a part of this important event. He added that more and more MSMEs were known to the public by participating in this event, specifically for branding.
Bengok Craft has been selected for MSMEs many times for local government events. Thanks to the support from the government and non-governmental organizations in an effort to support MSMEs, such as organizing export training, MSME workshops, exhibitions, and others.
